The light

Mohammed left a government job in the United Arab Emirates in 2013 and launched Tamashee with the Saudi co-founder Muneera Al Tamimi: a footwear brand built on the history of the Arabian peninsula rather than on a logo. Tamashee Experiences followed, running cultural trips into Asir and Taif.

His argument is that identity and culture are a competitive advantage for a regional business rather than decoration on top of one, and he has spent a decade demonstrating it commercially. He is a heritage curator for Visit Dubai, has appeared on Dubai One and in Gulf News, and describes himself as a cultural consultant and guide.

For somebody arriving who assumes the Gulf is one place, he is the fastest correction available. It is many houses, and knowing which one you are in matters.

What Mohammed clears

The difference between the Gulf states, for somebody who assumed oneWhere the peninsula's craft traditions are still aliveHow a regional brand is built on identity rather than a logo
